An open front cotton kimono jacket, steeped in natural indigo plant dye in Chiangmai, Thailand. The cloth is a slub weave, so the surface is uneven the way raw denim is, and the dye sits on it the same way: it lifts first at the elbows, the cuffs, and wherever your hands go, until the piece reads like something you've had for years. Natural indigo also transfers, so keep it off cream upholstery and wash it alone. Hip length, cut straight through the body with no flare.

100% cotton. Machine wash cold on gentle and hang dry. Wash separately at first with darks. Avoid bleach. Indigo dye may crock onto skin or lighter fabrics for the first few washes.

Care Tips

  • Gentle Cleaning: Hand wash or use the delicate cycle on your washing machine with cold or warm water to protect the fabric and dyes.
  • Choose the Right Detergent: Use non-enzyme, non-biological detergents to preserve the colors and fabric integrity.
  • Skip the Dryer: Tumble drying can damage the fabric and cause further shrinkage. Gently press out excess water and air dry flat or on a hanger.
  • Preserve Colors: Reshape your pieces while damp and dry them inside out, away from direct sunlight, to prevent fading.
  • Wash Strong Colors Separately: Although pre-washed, strongly colored items may release some excess dye. Be sure to wash separately in cold water for the first wash, and combine with like colors for future washes.
